Dinner, Art, and Ice Cream On The Square

Tonight I met up with my friend Rachel, who was in town for business. She works in California for the same company as I do, and we met by chance at our orientation and hit it off. She is altogether one of the coolest people I know. We grab dinner every once in a while when she is in town and tonight, we ate at a great restaurant on the Bentonville Square called Tusk and Trotter (not a place for vegetarians, mind you). I had a meat salad with lettuce and blue cheese on the side, also known as a Cobb Salad (wink wink). She had something like a steak and truffle oil fries (yum).

While I waited to meet up with her I did this super quick sketch on my Autodesk Sketchbook Pro App on my Nexus 7 ( I promise this is not a sponsored post- I only wish). I've seen some amazing work done on this app, and I'm still playing around with it. I like sketching on the touchpad but it tends to be a little flat, as it is not pressure sensitive. I sketched this between texting, "I'm here." and her showing up literally minutes later. She wasn't too bothered that I made her wait while I saved it before I said hello (Sorry!).

I didn't have any time after that to adjust proportions or perspectives or add details. This next one was my meager attempt at quick filling the sketch with the shapes that were already there. I did this after I got home. I think I gave myself only 5 minutes, which sounds easier, but remember I had to switch the colors and the CAD brushes. Mind you, the fountain in the middle actually has a man on top, but hey it's a quick sketch and it was just for fun.

I was wary of posting this, but my artist friend, Anthony Resto says people love to see behind-the-scenes type sketch work. I reviewed his work recently and he is currently featured in an artist showdown contest Resto Vs. Corens. You should check out Greta Corens work too while you are at it. They are both quite talented. On the way to dinner, I noticed these amazing mural portraits by Chrystal Seawood. Dinner could wait while I took a few snapshots:

Beautiful use of color, texture, and line,

After dinner, we stopped by the 5& 10 Store Museum Visitors Center. Rachel got some Walmart pins to give out to our awesome store associates (because she's cool like that).  I got some almond chocolate and bubble gum from the old fashioned store. Then we headed over to the sweet shop, The Spark Cafe - Icecream Parlor. She got a regular sized cone, but I couldn't resist the teeny tiny ice cream cone, a "cutie." It was just enough sweet and I saved my chocolate bar for later (except for 2 pieces). Rachel snapped this little photo for her instagram.

And that's just another day in Bentonville, Arkansas! Toodles!
