My Week In Photos

My week has been a bit hectic. I was sick so I reached for a healthy snack full of vitamin C and protein. Yes, that's just tomato juice. It tastes better in stemware. ;) Paired with salt and pepper pickles (only a few) and some colby jack cheese. Yum!

A storm rolled in this week. There were tornado warnings and some pretty crazy weather. Look at these amazing clouds! I snapped this just before the rain came down.

The storm made way for a double rainbow and a beautiful sunset.

I have always been fascinated by the (quite simple) science of rainbows and the fundamental processes that create them. Did you know the top of the arch will be at 42 degrees above the horizon?

Yesterday my new coworker, Ali and I went to Bentonville's First Friday event on the Bentonville square. There were flower petals on the side walk.

And I met a girl in a shop who had this adorably cute fish purse- she let me take a photo and the sun setting through the shop door made the perfect lighting.

Then Ali and I went to the sweet shop. We got her very first ice cream float. I got a Coca Cola float (it was on special for a buck). I haven't had soda pop in longer than I can remember. We sat at the booth and I took a quick photo of the sweets in the window box.

There were performers playing with fire and juggling and riding a unicycle.

And beautiful tulips.

Today I decided it was time to hang up my birthday flowers to dry. The lilies lasted an insane amount of time- over 2 weeks! I love this cork board I made from wine corks. It's so nice to enjoy my flowers for a little bit longer.

Cleon Update + California Home: Aliyah Davis

It is snowing something beautiful here in Bentonville, Arkansas! I have a photo shoot planned for this weekend and as long as my subjects don't back out (I REALLY hope they don't!), it could be a positively magical & beautiful thing with all this fluffy white (tomorrow is supposed to be partly sunny - perfect photography weather). :) I took test shots last week, but they wont be applicable tomorrow because of the reflective quality of the snow. I grew up in the North, so I just love the snow. I was so obsessed with the snow scenes in Katy Perry's Unconditional music video a few weeks ago, that I took screen shots of all my favorites. You can see them here. We don't get much snow here in Arkansas, so this is a rare occasion.

The storm itself is named Cleon, which sounds to me like an epic sci-fi movie: Storm Cleon Attacks!

I might just make up a poster, if I can find some time! Or perhaps a t-shirt:

"I survived Cleon 2013!" Haha!

Look for wintery photos on my blog soon, but in the meantime I have a little gift for those of you who hate snow! My good friend Aliyah Davis (a singer/songwriter/graphic artist/model in LA) took a trip and was kind enough to share some photos of where she was staying. They are just beautiful! You can also check out one of her (several) bands Facebook pages here: They are Inheritor, an LA based symphonic metal band.

Enjoy the  metal  (ba dum chi!) mental vacation via these photos by Aliyah Davis!

Photography: Sunflare

When I started this blog my friend Kristin and I did a little digital photoshoot in the field near my home. I posted the unedited photos she took of me... and subsequently lost the SD card. Well, it showed up recently and I finally got to do the Photoshop magic I have been wanting to do with the photos I took of her. The photo editing I did has little to no "corrections"- Kristin is gorgeous just the way she is! Besides I like my subjects to look real. The photo editing I did added sun flares and adjusted the color balance and lighting. In all honesty, now the photos look a lot closer to how the light actually was falling at our sunset photoshoot. With a day's worth of work, I am super happy with how they have turned out- so editorial chic!

Enjoy!

Leather shorts, vintage thrifted sequin top, jewelry- Kristin's own.

If you want to learn how to do sun flares in Photoshop Cheryl Chu has a great tutorial that can give you similar effects, but remember each photo is unique and the lighting you use makes a huge difference.

Thanks Kristin!
